Construction Working Group Meeting

The next meeting will be held at St Vincent College from 07:30 till 09:30 on Wednesday 30 March 2022. 

Hosting this session is Angela Berry, CEO of the Lighthouse Learning Trust (Richard Tauntons and St Vincents).

A Continental breakfast will be provided with the opportunity to network from 7.30-7.50am, then discussion and presentations will take place.

The focus will be on making apprenticeships successful, and there are three discussion topics:

1. How employers can get the most out of apprenticeship opportunities from being more involved with the recruiting process (rather than training providers placing participants sometimes without even an interview and often very late) and how that can best be achieved post COVID.  Talking about site visits/ work experience as well as how they word vacancy adverts and so on. Delivered by Jodi Fair from the Skills and Apprenticeship Hub.
   
   
2. How employers can work better with training providers and colleges during the apprenticeship. Not leaving difficult conversations about performance to the training provider to discuss at review meetings, having a training plan at work in place, mentoring in the work place, employer being aware of what is happening with the qualification, induction process. Demonstrating that the Employer and Training provider are working together as a team. Angela Berry, Casandra Fisher and Deborah Tapin from The Lighthouse Learning Trust.
   
   
3. What happens towards the end of an apprenticeship, is there a progression opportunity onto the next level of qualification, permanent employment, contract employment (and does the individual really understand what that means). If staying with the current employer isn't possible what support is available to help the individual find alternative opportunities and at what point do those conversations begin and so on. Delivered by Jodi Fair from the Skills and Apprenticeship Hub.
